1963 VW Beetle "Lil Blue"
This car had a great start, then a terrible tragedy, and Im working on bringing it back.
Got this car nearly 2 years ago. It began as a joint effort between a friend of mine that owns an East Coast VW wheel business (Smitty's Smoothies) and myself. He needed a guy on the West Coast to hit car shows and events to sell wheels. I was raised building old VWs with my dad and brother. There is no better VW scene than the California VW scene. I set about scouting for a car, not too nice, but not a bucket either. Patina was a plus here. I found lil blue, and she was perfect. No rust beyond the here and there surface dot. The original 1200cc engine was gone, and a 1600cc was in its place. The interior was....well....what interior? It had front seats, and nothing more. Its a blank slate. But I have a plan for the interior, its going to be epic!
Unfortunately, all I had the chance to do was drive it for a few months. I hit a few shows, even won a trophy once for best (only) import at a show full of American classics. Before my new smoothies got to me, the front of the bug meet the rear of a Ram 2500 one cold and rainy morning. I haven't done much other that drive it around my neighborhood since. The hood and right front fender are totally mashed. The front apron isn't very healthy anymore either. I have a new front clip from another '63 in the same color blue already. Im going to fix it, I am. Ive just lost the motivation. Plus, the Mustang is in the garage for now......
