Guys and gals. This is a copy/paste from the owner/admin of Z28.com. He is an amazing guy and Sean Davis can vouch for him as well. His Dad died yesterday after a long bout with some serious health issues. He's trying to get a military send off for his Dad (former Green Beret). Is there anything anyone here can do or maybe you can hook him up with your connections? ANY help will be so very much appreciated!
"We are trying to do a full Military Burial for Dad but with the holidays near it is hard to get a full service with the 21 gun salute due to people being out for the holidays.
My father was a Green Beret in the Special Forces stationed out of Ft Bragg NC, so this would be a huge honor for him.
If anyone would have the slightest way to help please contact me asap. PM, email, Jason@z28.com" Here's the link to the thread on Z28.com http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128654

Anyways, hope the family is doing ok and they'll be in my prayers
Thanks for all the support guys. I know Jason and his family are much happier knowing he's got friends in uniform.
Thank you Sir. I know Jason feels much better knowing his request is being worked as far as we can. I sure hope he can get this!

So do I. I was thinking about it at work today and it will be so tough this time of year... but I wish the best for him and his family.
Most definitely Jim. Hopefully everything turns out the way it should. His father damn well deserves it.

This is an update, here is a post for Jason on Z28.com
Alright Jason I just got off of the phone with the a Louisiana representative from casualty services. The number I called was 888-474-0377. I found them on http://www.militaryfuneralhonors.osd.mil/ That is the official site for military funeral services.
I spoke to a woman and explained to her exactly who I was and what your situation was... she was very helpful. Here is what she told me after asking for some of the information that you gave me in the email.
1. Contact the funeral home that you told me about and express to them exactly what kind of service you want. She said that they deal with almost every funeral home in the state so the funeral director should be VERY familiar with the procedures.
2. She said the funeral director will then contact casualty services at Fort Polk which is the same place I already called. Again, that number is 888-474-0377 if your funeral home doesn't already have it.
3. You told me that they already had his discharge papers. She didn't seem very excited about discharge papers. She expressed the need of a DD 214 or some type of retirement paperwork. Basically, anything showing the years he served and his rank. If those are the papers you are talking about then everything is good.
As far as you go, all you will need to do is let the funeral home know what kind of service you would like for your father. As long as you stay on top of them, they should be able to handle everything else. She was pleased that the funeral wasn't until the 27th so you should be good to go. If you already talked to your funeral home, most of this is probably already in the works. I would still check on it though.
I hope this helps and I hope everything works out as planned brother.
Awesome!!! Way to go Sean.
Just got off the phone with Jason... I feel so bad for him. He sounds so down but he was definitely happy about getting some information. He has everything that he needs to give his father the burial he deserves so everything should work out just fine. Man, I really feel for him right now

Bad news lsoing a loved one this time of year. They've been through some tough times this year. His Dad went through a lot.
Hopefully they get the funeral he deserves...
sorry to hear the sad news. I have done plenty of funeral details and from what I know the only way he'll get full honors is if he was a general officer, active duty or buried at Arlington. If he was retired he will probably just get a 2-3 man detail. I'm pretty sure you can talk to the local VA or VFW and they have a team of old retired folks that will be more than helpful to do the full honors. I have seen it before, they come out there with shotguns and their old uniforms and get off the bus, do their thing, and stay until everyone leaves. Try to contact them and see if they can help.
I appreciate the help Heronbone. I posted up the thread right before Christmas. It went just like you said. He got a 2 man detail. Sean sure did try to get things together for our friend though.
